New Idea

Because of how long it has been taking to recieve these coupon packs & most people are trying to time the coupons with the right sale BB should have them avail. in-store for purchase when you become unlocked. Cross promote the coupons along with the weekly ad & make sure your game reps are aware that way unlocked memberships will increase as a result of the exposure. If a person can make use of the program on day 1 when spending $15 upfront then the chances of them joining increase.

If BB were to sponsor special coupons packs that would also be avail. in-store this would generate instant revenue from the sponsers, increased sales & increase unlocked memberships as well.

Make it so BB make it so.

I could see the potential value in having these coupons available in store when someone pays to upgrade to an unlocked Reward Zone gamers account. I would like to hear from users considering an unlocked membership if they could see the value in this idea, or if they would be fine with waiting on receiving their coupons at a later date.

Allowing @Gamer Coupons to be used online

Status: Tell Us More
by enuf on 03-03-2012 12:22 AM

I've noticed that there's been a large focus on used games & there's been several @gamer coupons for used games that have resulted in good deals. But the problem for many is that their local stores don't have a large selection of used games which makes the coupons "useless". Also, when there's deals like buy 2 get 1 free on all used games or buy any used game $30 or more get a free Unlocked membership these are also not enticing if there's little to no game to buy. BestBuy is new to the used game market but if your gonna compete with Gamestop in their backyard you gotta provide the same services.

Status: Tell Us More
The fact that multiple users are attesting to the limited stock of used games at their local store definitely gives validity to your idea. I don't have any hard numbers on this, but if I was to guess the limited availability could be due to the titles being requested are popular games. The more popular a game is the less they will be traded-in to one of our stores, and the faster they will sell out of those titles. I especially like the idea of these @gamer coupons being able to be used on BestBuy.com, and could honestly see this being a valuable idea. I would like to hear any additional thoughts anyone has on this idea.

Adding a "Silver" tier to the Gamers Club

Status: Tell Us More
by enuf on 03-28-2012 02:52 PM

Although I like the new gamers club unlocked program there were several perks sacrificed that used to make me get games day 1. I was able to become RZ silver based on mainly gaming deals but with the loss of the consistant $10(500 RZ points) pre-order bonuses & $10 RZ for every $150 spent on gaming I've done less & less of purchasing day 1. I know in order for these deals to continue there has to be a better give & take for BB to remain profittable so my suggestion is to offer a 3rd gamers club option that can be achieved/earned in more than 1 way.

If you were to buy 1 $60 release week game per month you'd spend $720 per year which is a large chunk of money to invest in games.

A-So say if you spend $1000 on games/accessories in 1 yr you would become GCU silver & a new set of benefits would be available.

B-Another way to become GCU silver would be participate in 12 pre-determined GCU/GCU Silver deals in 1 yr that would also warrant an upgrade since you would be supporting the program throughout the year.

C-The final way to earn GCU silver status would be to participate in 2 five for $100 deals in 1 yr with 1 major adjustment. We should be able to select the 10 games thoughout the year instead of just a list of 15. Several top notch titles would be excluded based on suits instead of customer demand which happens quite often(remember Batman Arkham Asylum was an underdog smash hit that lead to AC being blockbuster). The 5 for $100 was very very sound but the process(pre-order, issuing of $100) needed upgrades.

Edit:smileyfrustrated:ince the current GCU can be purchased then GCU Silver status should also be allowed but since the benefits are very generous the GCU Silver should be $30 per yr if not earned through the means above. Offer both GCU & GCU Silver for $40 so more people would do this vs paying $15 for GCU & another $30 for GCU SIlver.

Some perks I would like to see would include

1-A coupon book for GCU silver members

2-Special "sponsored" editions of the @gamer mag with coupons that would be directly tied to specific AAA titles.

3-Emailed deals just for CU silver members

4-An additional 10% off ALL gaming products & the ones that can be discounted should net either an instant BB giftcard or RZ points equal to the 10%. This 10% should stack with the current GCU 10% as you would've paid $15 for the 1st & earned the Silver status through above measures.

I know there's more perks that I missing hopefully other gamers can contribute.

Thanks for the very thorough idea, and it looks like you have a lot of ideas for us when it comes to improving our gaming offerings. I have seen us getting requests to add tiers to our Reward Zone program in the past, and I could see your idea might be something we would add in the future to the Gamers Club Unlocked memberships. I would like to hear from other customers and employees as to what they think about this idea.

Wedding gift registry

Status: Tell Us More
by conkt21 on 03-12-2012 11:18 AM

Best Buy currently does not have a wedding gift registry. The wedding industry is over a 40 billion dollar industry and Best Buy does not offer a registry for new couples. I am getting married in June 2012 and like most couples my fiance and I already have all kitchen ware and etc that couples use to register for at one point in time. Plus gift registry is for stuff that couples want that they typically can't afford or wouldn't normally purchase. Plus this is a way to tap into the woman market as they are the ones that determine where to register. If Best Buy did offer this, I would have registered. It would be nice to be able to create a registry online where couples can add things that they would want/need and also offer purchase of online gift cards as well for couples if they don't want to purchase something on the registry. This would really tap into a new market because Best Buy offers home appliances and much more (women love) and electronics for men. It's the best of both worlds. Plus let's be honest registries are all wants and what Best Buy offers is wants not needs. I would love a new television or washer and dryer for my wedding. I can buy dishes and sheets on my own...

Thanks,

Connie

An Official BestBuy rep joining CAG

Status: Tell Us More
by enuf on 03-01-2012 03:45 PM

Because of the amount of deals BestBuy has had it can be very difficult to keep up thus I always check CAG(CheapA$$Gamer.com) to see what's going on. I'm a very active member there as I am also active on the BestBuy forums page & I think this would benefit all those involved. So it's a "WIN WIN WIN"

BestBuy Wins

Because the deals are far more visible than just the weekly ad thus more sales more $

Errors/mistakes that occur can be correctly quickly & that will cut down on the number of angry customers that miss a deal

With more sales & more $ generated BestBuy can provide more deals & promotions based off the larger sales base

More site traffic, more visibility

Even though the site is for gamers there's also a section for movies & other electronics

Customers Wins

More deals

Less errors/mistakes to avoid several trips to the store

Easy way to find all the deals in one spot

The CAG community can help with alerting stores that are out of stock & where items can be found

CAG Wins

More site traffic, more visibility

More deal posters = more deals posted

More CAG's helped

The only "loser" is our wallets but hey those are the breaks.

Just take a look at the current March @Gamer thread with deals that include $10 for Batman Arkham City, $5 for Rage & $5 for Mass Effect 2

http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=316177

The CAG will also be speaking on a rep joining hopefully we can make this happen sooner than later. The 2011 fall deals from BestBuy were unbeatable & even I was overwhelmed trying to keep up, keep everyone updated & get in on some of the deals but that's where a Official rep comes in.

http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?p=9420240#post9420240

There have been/are other retailers that have reps. there & they have been rewarded with more sales.

Sound off below lets get a BestBuy rep to CAG in time for the 2012 fall gaming blitz

Status: Tell Us More
After reading your idea it does sound this could be valuable. I would like to hear from other users if they would see that value of having official representation on the CAG forum.
I for one do not like having to print out my reward zone certificates in order to use them in the store. New Process When I am at the register and the cashier scans my card or looks up my information, the system should be able to tell the cashier how many certificates I have, the amounts and the expiration date. At that point I can tell him/her if I would like to use any of them or if would like to save them. If I want to use them him/her would select the specific certificates and it would then apply to my total. I think this would be something that would increase customer satisfaction as it relates to the reward process.

It certainly seems like this is something that most Reward Zone members would like to see in place. What do other Reward Zone members feel about this?

While I am a frequent shopper at Best Buy, some other game shoppers may not be and many of those people may not know that your stores now sell pre-owned games. Aside from a small section in one or two of the circulars since the inception of the used game/game trade programs at BB I haven't seen very much marketing regarding it.

If you guys want to try to take a chunk of Gamestops' business away you're going to have to do an advertising blitz to get the word out. However, this may not help due to the disproportionate numbers of some games stores are being shipped back after an apparently lengthy processing cycle.

I've noticed 7-10 copies of some older PS3/PS2/360 titles that have been sitting on the shelves since they first arrived 3-4 months ago. They include copies of Two Worlds II for PS3 and Enter The Matrix for PS2.

Unfortunately another thing that may be lagging behind is price drops on these games and even if they are implemented quickly the price tags are not always changed on the products themselves.

Moreover, Best Buy really should get their lawyers looking at how exactly Gamestop skirts local pawn laws and is able to put out traded in products immediately after taking them in. I say this because the one month or MORE turnaround time from when items are traded in till when they are finally shipped back out to stores to be resold is hurting pre-owned game sales just as much as the lack of marketing dollars being spent on it.

Thanks for the idea. Anyone else have any thoughts on this?

At least print about them on the reciepts! Store #364 don't have a clue about them and I'm sure the other stores follow suit. I thought companies were supposed to know all about the inner workings of their companies but some do not?

I hope I'm making sense, perhaps integrate the forums experience into part of their training and make them aware that these forums exist and what their purpose is.

Status: Tell Us More
As a moderator on our forum I cannot agree with you more. I can say that we do highlight the forum internally. I would like to hear from other customers or employees as to how informed our stores are in regards to these forums, and whether or not they feel our associates should be more knowledgeable about our forums. Let us know what you think!

I'm a member of several different gaming/deal communities and on each there were reports by the members of using copies and scans of the March @Gamer coupons. Not to mention some users on SlickDeals reported having the cashiers allow them to use only the SKU's from the coupons without having to present or surrender the physical coupons(which some of them didn't have in the first place).

I'm sure such fraudulent use of the coupons and SKU's from them will only lead to the deals being lessened or eliminated due to such abuse if it were to continue. This is why my suggestion is to print the coupons on the same type of reflective security paper that I believe was used for the Gamer's Club Unlocked unlocking coupon that was mailed to people who signed up in store early on in the program. By using such paper for the coupons it should eliminate the scanning and copying of the coupons that was reported repeatedly on sites such as SlickDeals as any attempt to scan or copy the coupons should produce copies that say VOID across them due to the reflective paper.

However, the cashiers working at each Best Buy store would also have to be instructed to not only take the coupons with each single purchase(as some apparently are not), but also what to look for in regards to an official coupon and how to spot a fake. Moreover, some cashiers have been apparently entering in the SKU's from the coupons without the customers actually having the physical coupons on hand. This was because four of the coupons from this month(Batman: Arkham City, Bulletstorm, Mass Effect 2 and Rage) were all scanned into a site called the KeyRing App, thus further facilitating the fraudulent use of the coupons.

Anyway, this is my proposed solution to stop the loss of magazine and Gamer's Club Unlocked subscription sales by making the coupons unique and easily recognizable as legit versus their scanned/copied counterparts. Hopefully by implementing this idea Best Buy can cut down on the fraudulent use of these coupons and keep these amazing gaming deals coming for months(years) to come.

Heet Wall signage

Status: Tell Us More
by stansmo on 04-10-2012 11:45 AM

Since the Heet Wall now has so many holes now due to the fact our tv selection is dropping in every store, I think I came up with a great idea to both fill the holes and to get more info out to the customers.  I have spoke to some Managers and Employees and they think its a great idea. My Heet wall now has over 10 holes on it ,most tvs are 40" to 46" so its a big hole making us look like we are going out of business. Why not have signs ( Finance deals, GSBT- what it covers, mounting and  install deals, Quick facts etc..)  that should be 40" in size and look like a TV and have them HANG in place just like a tv? You could make it kinda look like a TV set with info on the screen, thick cardboard would do the trick and the customers would really see them NOT like the 8x10 signs we use now. I hope this makes since but sometimes I have a hard time trying to get in idea to come to life by sending emails. I think our Finance deals are the key and they need to be out where the customers sees them and I know that would be a huge deal. If you have any questions pls email me, thanks

Status: Tell Us More
I have to admit I was surprised to hear your store had empty spaces between different model TVs on this wall, but if these spaces are permanent I think your idea makes complete sense. Even if the spaces were temporarily there until new display models came in I could see it being handy for a store to have different signage that could be put there while waiting. Any other thoughts on this idea?

CUSTOMER ATTRACTION/SALES

Status: Tell Us More
by lprice on 04-18-2012 09:53 AM

This is primarily for the CEO or his staff..  I have read in various news releases, and there are many, that you are encouraged to implement operations that will emulate the new DIGITAL age.  What these news releases fail to remember is that any successful company has implemented first of all policies that address the basics of retail sales: customer service, product availability/knowledge, and price. People shop at AMAZON and others primarily because of product availability and.price.  They come to your stores because they can see the product they are interested in, ask questions and generally satisfy themselves regarding their intended purchase. Then it's off to the internet.  What to do?

1. Work towards having legislation implemented that would require any products purchased on-line to be taxed at the local rates. This will help reduce the price differences.

2. Reduce the inventory in your stores, but have immediate access to the various products to be able to offer quick shipping and delivery. Increase the range of products, but limit the number of each product in the store, this will help keep inventory costs at a minimum.

3. Offer the "lookers" a coupon or such that would honor a competative price for a limited period.

4. Have "teams" ready to help customers who receive the items, but are unsure or incapable of assembling and/or installing them. A strong selling point.

I would also like to see legislation that requires online-only retailers to collect taxes upfront. I can say that we are currently going through a transformation to improve our business model. Any other thoughts on this idea?

iPad optimized app

Status: Tell Us More
by Bangbang023 on 03-21-2012 08:24 PM
I am shocked that our iOS app is not optimized for the iPad. This should be a number one priority for us as multi channel sales become a larger part of the business. High resolution product pictures and even employee presented educational videos would be extremely useful. The interface could also be updated for iPads to allow a lot more comparison and presentation of information. Considering how many iPads we sell, we really should be taking advantage of the opportunity to grow our brand and further connect with our customers.

This was surprising to hear. I completely agree with this, and I would like to hear from other customers or employees on how they feel about your idea.

A lot of places like iTunes and Blockbuster allow people to pre-order things they want before they come out. Actually, for Blockbuster, you get to add stuff to a queue because they allow you to rent online, so you can basically put movies that haven't been released yet into a queue and they will be sent out when they are available. I wish Best Buy did this for music and movies as well because then people can order them ahead of time without having to wait for them to come out.

User Dval is correct that we do provide the ability to pre-order Music and Movies on BestBuy.com.

Premier Silver Card

Best Buy should put the number of years that someone is a premier silver memebr on the membership card.  It does not need to be continous service.  There should be special benefits for 5yr, 10yr, etc as a way to encourage people to meet those milestones.

Finding the right computer

Status: Tell Us More
by aryamisa on 04-12-2012 12:00 AM

So I find myself in need of a new computer and sadly I am no computer whiz. While searching for one I find that most brands are names I have never seen or heard of before and that the features or specs are an alien language to me. I imagine I'm not the only one so I would like to suggest something like a search engine for finding the computer that is right for me. By indicating the kind of activities I use the computer for, the search results would indicate what models or brands would fit my needs. I think many people who, like me, do not have much knowledge about computers would find this helpful so that they can buy a computer that is right for them. Not a very expensive one with features they may never get to use or a less flashy model that doesn't satisfy their needs.

I could ask a friend, an employee in a store, or even read about it in various internet articles but the convinience of being able to do a search for it here would be more efficient and would save a lot of time.

Status: Tell Us More
I could see the potential usefulness of such a tool, but would like to hear from other customers if they would like to see something like this. On a side note, if you need someone to point you in the right direction just post to the Computers and Networking board.
at stop and shop for every 100 dollars purchased you get 10 cents off of a gallon of gas. best buy should try same idea. this way not only would people go to store to check out latest gadget but would have great incentive to buy.
Status: Tell Us More
Interesting idea, but I'm not quite sure how this could be implemented. Do any other users have anything to add to this idea?

When shopping online, the "Narrow your Search" options force shoppers to pigeon-hole themselves into small searches.

If there were checkboxes instead... we could pick RANGES of options, like $101-200 ...and... $201 to 300; OR we could pick specific vendors, like HTC and Samsung (and leave out Blackberry).

Most of the time, I want to shop for a price range which is nowhere near the selections offered... like I might want 'under $500' but all you offer is 0-99, or 100-199, or 200-299, or 300-399, or 400-499, etc., etc.   I don't want to have to do multiple searchers in each pigeon-hole so that I can see them all.

Oftentimes, I want to OMIT a vendor... like all smartphones EXCEPT Blackberry... instead, I'd have to search EACH vendor... SO I DON'T EVEN PICK ANY.

And not just price and vendor... but checkbox ALL the 'narrow' options... because I might want either an i5 or an i7 CPU, but not an i3... so I have to do two searches.

Aggravating.... so I just don't.   So you lose a sale.

I have to admit I personally shop at an online retailer that's site operates exactly as you describe, and I have to admit in some situations I do like it better. I can also say that I like the way BestBuy.com is set up if I know exactly what I am looking for. I'm fairly confident that any changes made that effect the entire BestBuy.com website would be expensive to implement, and I would need to hear from more customers and employees on this.

To make it easy to see the quality of pictures from digital cameras, add a small tablet to the aisle, next to each camera, that shows 20 different "best shot" images taken with that camera. It could be a slide show. It can also contain some additional technical or marketing slides to help consumers with their decision. This would be a far better approach than taking the annoying shot f the store and staring at the 3" LCD to try and make sense of the image. I bought all my cameras at Best Buy in the past. Now I buy them on line, because the imagery is so much more accessible (and beautiful) with the online experience.

I like the idea, but I do see some potential problems. A booklet of photos could merely contain the very best photos possible from a particular model, and might not be representative of the average photos taken by a camera. Any other thoughts on this idea?

I would like to get a text message to my phone when my store pickup up item is ready so I don't miss the email / have to keep checking my email.  There are probably a couple other thinks I would like to get texted in addition to the email.  There should be an option to pick the things I would like to have email, texted, or both.

Status: Under Review

There seems to be a "disconnect" between the BB promotions dept. & the customers or would be customers. To many times I see deals that are offered by "lesser" retailers or can think of deals that would suit a certain sale better than what BB offers. I know BB can't get it right all the time but there's certain types of deals that should be standard staples.

With all this being said the solution would be to have BB promotion reps directly on the forums page or another BB sponsored site...come to think of it BB could actually get other sponsors to assist on the site since they would be able to promoted the items that BB would be stocking. We the customers could then goto the site & let BB know exactly what we want, have interest in buying, what deals/sale will get us in the door & what deals the competition is doing giving BB a chance to one up them.

Amazon has an "alert us" option which allows them to adjust there prices on the fly so BB should consider doing the same. Obviously, BB wouldn't do this for every item but if demand is extremely high it may prove profitable to make exceptions accordingly. If there's a consistent deals that people request then it would make sense for BB to begin incorporating the same sale(s) from their end and become more proactive.

I know BB has a price match policy but these would be the perfect times to incorporate Deals of the Day, Deal of the Week, Deal of the Month. In this economy it's no longer about getting "new" customers/sales it's more about taking customers/sales from your competition. The foot/web traffic combined with GCU & Media club should equal a very positive financial outcome for BB in the short term & long term. Twitter & Facebook could also be incorporated too but the site would allow another revenue source along with the Gamers & Media clubs which would allow for even better deals.

If there's a franchise of anything then anytime a new entity is coming out BB needs to offer deals for people new to the franchise & those who are vets of the franchise.

Examples:

2011 was the year of thirds for video games so the best way to market to the full audience would be to offer the $60 game along with the other games for $80-$100. PS3 has all the classic remakes & these can easily be tied in the GCU program.

What BB should've offered

1-Uncharted 3 & the Uncharted 2 pack for $90 if Uncharted 3 was pre-ordered

2-$80 if Uncharted 3 was pre-ordered the customer is a GCU member.

3-$20 off any other PS3 HD remake w/pre-order/purchase of Uncharted 3 + GCU

Same thing applies to music(This can also be piggy-backed with a BB Movie/Music/Media club which is also an IdeaX)

http://forums.bestbuy.com/t5/Best-Buy-IdeaX/How-about-double-rewardzone-points-on-movies-and-music/i...

If a artist has multiple albums out when the release a new album

1-Discount all of the other separately

2-Offer all the albums including the new one for 1 special package price that would be cheaper than buying all of them like in # 1

3-For artists with 4 or more albums offer buy 2 or buy 3 deals

4-Try to get special packaging/swag in relation to the #2 that will make BB the place for loyal fans to buy from.

Movies(also would be piggy-backed with the BB Movie/Music/Media club)

Do the same thing as suggested for music but also focus on the special packaging & swag since this will actually drive foot traffic & week 1 sales. The DC & Marvel animation dvds that come with the figures seem to sell very well.

Although I am employed I'd happily come aboard & help BB become a beast in the retail sector & take BB to a level they would never have thought of.

I have to say that I'm not sure how much of this we could put in place, but it could very well be worth consideration. I do know that we do offer a deal of the day as it stands, but I could see us expanding this to deal of the week/month. I would like to hear from other users on this.
